Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement after his bills to extend deadlines for the commencement of construction of hydroelectric projects at the Gathright Dam in Alleghany County and the Flannagan Dam in Dickenson County passed the United States Senate:
“Hydropower is an important renewable energy asset, and the projects at the Gathright Dam and the Flannagan Dam will help power our communities. Further, their construction will result in jobs and economic activity. I proposed legislation extending the deadline for them to begin, and these bills now go to President Trump’s desk for his signature. I look forward to the advancement of these hydroelectric projects, which will develop the economic and energy potential of the Ninth District.”
H.R. 446 and H.R. 447, the bills extending deadlines for the Gathright Dam and the Flannagan Dam, respectively, passed the House of Representatives on June 12, 2017. They cleared the Senate on June 29, 2018.
