Griffith Announces $3,199,553 Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation Grant in Russell County

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) joined officials from the Virginia Division of Mines, Minerals, and Energy in Lebanon today to announce a $3,199,553 grant to create an industrial site in Russell County adjacent to additional sites being prepared for industrial use. The funding comes from a pilot program to reclaim abandoned mine land Griffith championed. He issued the following statement:

“Today’s announcement highlights how reclaiming abandoned mine land can provide a boost to our economy. Over $3 million will be provided to ready a site for industrial use adjacent to additional sites being prepared for industrial use. The project will create jobs and lead to new economic activity in Russell County. I am glad to see the funding I fought for in the House of Representatives go to this worthy project.”

Background

Griffith has secured an additional $20 million for a pilot program to fund abandoned mine land reclamation in Virginia with a specific focus on economic development.
