Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $1,836,769 in Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) grants for Southwest Virginia organizations. The award amounts, organizations, and purposes for the awards are:

  • $1,250,000 to Appalachian Sustainable Development for a multi-state food economy network
  • $486,769 to People Incorporated Financial Services to help communities access capital
  • $100,000 to Friends of Southwest Virginia for a multi-state plan to boost cultural and natural assets

“Today’s announcement continues an ongoing commitment for innovative economic development in Virginia’s coal-impacted communities,” said ARC Federal Co-Chair Tim Thomas. “Investing in key regional needs now will benefit the Region, and the rest of the country, well into the future.”

Griffith has long been a supporter of ARC and its mission. He has testified and submitted letters expressing his support during the appropriations process and voted for ARC funding, including in fiscal year 2019’s Energy and Water House appropriations bill.
