Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement after the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) awarded $500,000 to the Town of Haysi for the Haysi Trails Center Development Project:

“Outdoor recreation has the potential to turn Southwest Virginia’s great natural splendor into an asset for economic development as well. The grant of $500,000 from the Appalachian Regional Commission for the Haysi Trails Development Project will encourage tourism in Dickenson County and support area businesses. These funds will help draw more visitors to discover all our region has to offer.”

Background

ARC’s grant funds the Phase 1 renovation of 4,415 square feet of the old Haysi Theater Building into the Haysi Trails Center. The project is expected to attract 500 daytime visitors annually, create three new businesses, and create three new jobs.
