Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today issued the following statement after participating in a House Energy and Commerce Committee Roundtable on energy security in the United States. “Coal remains a vital component of the American economy and yet many across the country continue to underestimate the need for coal production, putting grid reliability at risk. When the Tennessee Valley Authority announced plans to close eight coal-fired power plants in 2013, a projected reduction in demand for electricity was given as a reason for the closures. We have since seen rolling blackouts across the region as a result of higher electricity demand.” “We must use every source of energy, including fossil fuels, so that we have reliable affordable electricity.” Griffith’s full questioning from today’s roundtable can be viewed here. ### |
